He conceals his features behind a mask. He has frightening powers. No one knows who he is, or how to control him. And yet, some call Spider-Man a hero.
At best, Spider-Man is a vigilante with the monstrous ego to consider himself above the law; at worst , an opportunistic criminal who uses his abilities for his own personal gain. Whatever else he may be, he’s a man with something to hide.
Maybe these things add up to a “hero” in your book. They don’t in mine.
