It’s not news anymore that the core set for 2021 will be replaced with a Dungeons&Dragons set, focussing on the Forgotten Realms. In this article we will be collecting various “evidence” and leaks for what the set will entail. Starting with this wonderful article found on the official WotC site for Dungeons and Dragons: Discover Player Factions.
Below are some of my thoughts about the factions. I believe each faction will be mono-colored, although some lines in their descriptions hint at splashes of a secondary color. The hints mainly point to White as a secondary color for all factions.
Sounding like a family name used in a bad road-trip movie, this could very well be the Blue faction. “Masterful spies and infiltrators, they use various guises and secret identities to form relationships, cultivate their information networks, and manipulate others into doing what needs to be done,” all sounds very blue.
Chances are this faction will be blue/white though. “promote fairness and equality,” sounds like the white thing to do, as well as “aid the weak, the poor, and the oppressed.”
The Order of the Gauntlet
Just the name of this faction alone already screams “WHITE”. The Order of the Gauntlet is an organization consisting of paladins and clerics of Tyr, Helm, Torm, and Hoar.
” identifying evil threats such as secretive power groups and inherently evil creatures, watching over them, and being ready to attack the moment they misbehave. (These are always retributive strikes, never preemptive.),” suggests they might have a beef to settle with The Harpers?
Coincidentally, this is the only faction that doesn’t seem to hint at a secondary color.
The Emerald Enclave
The Emerald Enclave is a far-ranging group that consists of Rangers, Druids, Barbarians and Witches. As such, this must be the Green faction.
“Members of the Enclave who dedicate themselves to helping others survive the perils of the wilderness are more social than others who are charged with defending sacred glades and preserving the natural balance.” Another line that hints as splashes of White for this faction.
The Lords’ Alliance
“every lord in the Alliance works for the fate and fortune of his or her own settlement above all others,” definitely sounds Red. As Red being the color of fate, chances and fortune (wheel of fortune anyone?).
“forming a strong coalition against the forces that threaten all,” yet again points at a coalition with White, so does “champions of the people”.
The Black faction. This faction, as the only one, specifically does not mention anything about doing good or opposing evil threats. As such I believe this faction to be the only one without ties to White. And instead have splashes of Red and Blue due to the connections to Wizards, Control and Espionage. This faction could serve as the main protagonist of the Dungeons&Dragons set for Magic: The Gathering.
